A few seconds later Nicholas stopped at the edge of the large clearing, snapping into view just as quickly and quietly as he had left. As his loose clothes settled, Nicholas briefly looked around, visualizing the changes he needed to make. The clearing as it was wasn't nearly big enough - at most it was only about 100 feet wide, with a burned out, pockmarked tree husk in the center. Once he was sure of the changes he needed to make, Nichoals deftly made 11 hand signs within 2 seconds, holding the final hand sign and standing still as his chakra flowed into the ground, the small inch wide fissures that gave Shattered Earth its name ripping through the area away from his position. Slightly modifying his hand sign and chakra flow, Nicholas visualized what he wanted the ground to do. As he did so the earth shifted, the ground at the edges of the clearing rising upward and outwards, creating a large bowl shaped formation while leaving the surrounding forest intact. Nicholas held the jutsu for another half a minute, and when he was finished the clearing had widened to be roughly 600 feet wide, surrounded by a ridge about 200 feet high, leaving only the burned out husk unmoved as a reference point for when he went to move everything back. Releasing his hand sign, Nicholas calmly walked over to the tree husk and sat down with his back to it as he waited for Akemi and Jysika to arrive.

Akemi and Jysika entered the clearing a few moments later. Akemi raised her eyebrow and acknowledged the vast change in the agriculture with an approving nod.
"You'll be able to fix this when you're done right?" She asked, smiling. She couldn't help but imagine someone walking along and falling into the huge crator, namely Nicholas's new student Jysika.
Jysika stopped and looked around, her mouth wide open. She walked to the edge of the formation and looked down, then turned around to look at Nicholas.
"Oh my goodness, that is so awesome! Okay Nicholas Sempai, what are we doing today?" She asked. She dropped the flowers that Akemi had her pick on their trip to the training spot and rubbed her hands together. Her light brown eyes bright with excitement.
Nicholas pushed himself off of the ground and tree husk into a standing position and began walking towards Akemi and Jysika at the edge of the clearing, nearly 300 feet away. "That was the whole point of me going ahead, wasn't it?" Nicholas said, answering Akemi's question with his voice raised loud enough to reach them. "As for what we'll be doing, I'm going to teach you a smaller version of the jutsu that did this."

"Seriously? Awesome! I can't wait.. lets get to it!" Jysika said. She began running down into the middle of the crator, but she lost her footing and started to fall. Thankfully though, she managed to tuck her body in and turn the rolling falls into flips so that she reached the bottom uninjured. Clearly a move that she learned from Sachi.
She popped up into a standing position and dusted herself off, and after rolling back her shoulders she beamed at her tutor.
"Alright, I'm so ready!" She said with such excitement that would make Lee and Gai proud.
Nicholas continued walking towards the Chuunin, and did not speak again until he was within ten feet of her. "You already know how to use Earth Flow Divide and Rock Pillars, both highly advanced Earth Style techniques in their own right, and also among the most destructive ones. What they lack, however, is control, and are still somewhat limited in what they can do. If I had attempted this with either of those two jutsu I would have either gotten a mountain or little more that a large hole in the ground." Nicholas explained, closing the distance and stopping beside Jysika before turning around and facing the tree husk in the center of the crater.

Jysika narrowed her brown eyes in concentration as she listened to Nicholas's words. Her fingers began toying with the ribbons on her hands since she was filled with both nervousness and excitement.
She nodded in agreement after visualising what would have happened if he had attempted to use either of those jutsu to cause the ridge.
She looked up at Nicholas, who stood beside her. "Okay, so how is this different?" She asked.
"It uses the same basic method, but with a few key differences. Rather than simply releasing a large amount of chakra in a single burst like with Rock Pillars, you let it flow into the ground. Unlike Earth Flow Divide, however, you aren't influencing the Dragon Veins with your chakra, either. Instead, you saturate the surrounding ground with your chakra and control it using only your chakra." Nicholas slowly made the hand signs in plain sight, taking 15 seconds to make all five. As his chakra flowed into the ground again, small, almost unnoticable cracks appeared in the ground beneath him, radiating outwards from under his feet. "After you've completed that step, you simply visualize what you want the ground to do, and change your hand signs as needed to regulate and manipulate your chakra flow." Slightly modifying his hand sign, Nicholas made a large pillar shoot up and out of the ground 75 feet ahead of them, and modifying his hand sign once more, made the pillar arc over and hammer into the ground, causing small shockwaves to raise dust from the surrounding earth. "The jutsu took me years to develop for several reasons. First and foremost is the difficulty that comes with maintaining a constant chakra flow. Too much chakra will simply reduce it into an uncontrollable earthquake, and too little will result in a technique too slow to use. The other issue was the degree of shape manipulation required to use the technique, something that you already have." Releasing the jutsu, Nicholas knelt down and released a pulse of Lightning chakra into the ground to clear it of any of his left over chakra that may interfere with the excercise. Standing up, Nicholas turned to Jysika. "Repeat the hand signs I just showed you, but slowly and without using chakra."

Jysika nodded and closed her eyes to focus now, visualizing the handsigns just as Nicholas had done. Blocking out any thing else around them.
After running through them in her head atleast twice, she followed along with her own handsigns, slowly. Making each handsign perfect and precise.
She then openned her eyes to look at Nicholas questioningly. "How was that Sempai?" She asked, biting her lip nervously. True, learning from Nicholas was nothing like learning from her father, but she often found herself steadying herself for blow ups at the slightest mistake in a handsign.
"Good. Again, with chakra this time. Take it slow, though, you'll get speed with practice. Just take control of the surrounding area for until about 50 feet out, and stop there." Nicholas said, blinking once and revealing the active shinigan when his eyes opened, his pupils now vertical slits rather than the normal circles and glowing a soft blue.

Jysika gave a brief nod before closing her eyes once more, visualizing again the handsigns in her head.
Keep the chakra flow nice and steady. Take it slow. Make sure each handsign is clear and exact
She felt the familiar tingling that her chakra sent through her body as she allowed it to flow from her and into the ground as she made her handsigns as she had practiced earlier. She could feel the small cracks forming underneath her feet, just as they had when Nicholas had shown her the jutsu.
She openned her eyes barely to look to see how her first attempt at the jutsu turned out.

Nicholas watched as the ground about 30 feet out, saturated with Jysika's chakra, rippled before returning to its previous state when she released the jutsu. "A bit too soon for that. For the time being just focus on reaching out that far. You're trying to move too fast, and not giving your chakra enough time to spread out far enough. It's your first try, and as I said earlier speed will come with practice. Again, but just keep it at making it out that far this time."

"Okay, so I need to worry about spreading my chakra out that far right? I can do it....." Jysika said, adding the last part more so for her own sake than for Nicholas's.
She locked her eyes on a visual point in the distance to where she was suppose to let her chakra reach. Her light brown eyes narrowed as she concentrated. She once more performed the handsigns as she practiced, this time focusing on the chakra flow, keeping it nice and level.. keeping it at an even keel (?) spreading to the point that she was focusing on.
Nicholas's eyes, able to see the chakra itself with the aid of the shinigan, followed her progress. "Alright, there, that's the 50 foot mark. Release to jutsu and do it again - keep doing it until it doesn't take too much effort to do it quickly. Once you've reached that point we'll move on to the next step." Nicholas said, kneeling down and releasing another raiton into the ground to clear it of Earth Style chakra.

Jysika nodded and released the jutsu. She pushed her bangs away from her eyes and relaxed her muscles a little before beginning the jutsu again, doing as before. This time it went a little bit easier. The trick was to get it to the 50 foot mark while keeping it steady.
Jysika continued practicing that step a few more times until she could do it rather easily. The final time, she released it and turned back to Nicholas.
"How was that?" She asked, "can I move on to the fun stuff now?"
"It's still a little slow, but you've got step one down." Nicholas said, releasing another raiton into the ground. "Still not quite to the shape manipulation yet, though. The next step is actually what gave me the most trouble. Do it again, but this time hold the jutsu out as long as possible while maintaining a steady chakra flow. This'll take a bit of chakra each time, though, so don't push it - we'll call it a day once you start getting tired."
