Name: Nicholas (forgot last name since he was never called by it after being made an orphan)
Age: 17-18 (Part 1)/ 20 (Shipuudden)
Birth Village: Small, unnamed town on the trade route between Suna and Konoha.
Gender: Male
Skin tone: Normal/ Light
Height: 6’ 3”
Body type: Thin, whipcord muscle.
Weight: 172 lbs.
Hair: Long, about 5 to 7 inches past shoulder length. Straight and loose but generally unkempt.
Eyes: Brown
Clothing: Traditional Japanese- White top, with sky blue sleeves. Leggings are the same color as the sleeves – tabi socks with straw sandals. No headband. During the time skip between Part 1 and Shipuudden he started wearing a high necked, sleeveless, light grey cloak to help cover his hands when using ninjutsu on missions.
Anything else physical: Number of scars all over back, arms and shins from childhood incident. Large, diagonal scar across his chest from his fight with Kisame.
Personality: Calm, collected, highly intelligent. Quiet around people he doesn’t know. Rarely loses his temper, but the poor sap that does make him angry during a fight may as well be dead. Laid back, and almost lazy unless involving assignments. Has a very strong sense of morality and personal honor, and despite outwards appearances, will go out of his way to help someone who needs it or can’t afford it. Very protective of anything he cares about, and has made it his lifelong goal to become stronger than anyone else so that he can protect those he cares for. Brilliant tactical and strategic mind. Enjoys watching others get caught in pranks, but rarely cracks jokes or pulls pranks himself. For better or worse tends to act on his own if going in a group puts his companions at anything he considers to be unreasonable risk- for example, staying behind to hold off a larger force while his group retreats, even if doing so goes against orders (won’t be stupid about it, however- will not take foolish risks while doing so, and would retreat himself once he was sure his group was out of danger). Also has been known to physically push or carry teammates out of harm’s way, usually with the use of flash step.
Hobbies: Reading outside, training to reach the point where he can beat Kisame, watching the sun rise from atop Hokage cliffs.
Likes: Cold green tea, books, natural surroundings.
Dislikes: Unnecessary loud noises, surprises in general, the month of October.
Rank: None (Private contractor, normally on par with a Jonin, but while using his kekkei genkai is capable of taking on fights on the level of a Jinchurikii/ Sannin/ Akatsuki member)
Village/ Affiliation: Konoha/ Hidden Leaf (unofficial, originally due to simply being hired by them, but eventually became a matter of loyalty to the Third Hokage and his memory)
Past: Grew up in a small, out of the way country. Never met his extended family- parents died of illness before he reached the age of 5. While he was initially something of a troublemaker, he eventually secured a job with a weapon smith in a small town in the Land of Fire. After a few years, he went to work one day to find the shop in flames, and his friend and boss brutally murdered. Taking it upon himself to exact revenge, he hunted down the murderers, and was beaten to near death when he confronted them. Before they landed the finishing blow, however, the shinigan activated for the first time, and when Nicholas came to all 6 of the men (well trained, armed men) were dead, as well as an innocent bystander who tried to break up the fight- Nicholas was 10 at the time. Ironically, it was killing the bystander that saved him; he would have lost himself after the ordeal if he hadn’t been shocked to reality by that mistake. Vowing to never again lose something he cared about, Nicholas vowed to make himself stronger. After 5 years of training, he mastered the shinigan and began to take contracts, but only the ones that followed his strict sense of morality- he also helped anyone he saw who needed help but could not afford it. After about a year his exploits attracted the attention of the Hidden Leaf, and after a thorough history/background check, he was hired as a private contractor for the Hidden Leaf at the age of 16. Upon arrival, he built a small house on the outskirts of the town, and lived a simple, if somewhat isolated life. Life continued as such until Orochimaru’s attack - Nicholas was put on suspension as a private contractor due to Konoha’s officials wanting to recertify his documentation after the attack. At a loss of what to do with the spare time, Nicholas put his past experience as a weapon smith to good use and opened a small repair shop in the meantime. Despite his suspension, however, he was sent out on a single mission to pursue the two Akatsuki that had infiltrated Konoha, since Konoha’s higher ups knew they could at least trust Nicholas as far as the Akatsuki went because of their last encounter. While Nicholas did manage to catch up with them, he was severely injured fighting Kisame, and the match ended in a draw, with the Akatsuki managing to escape. After about six months Nicholas applied for citizenship as a Konoha resident and was granted the status after another month. While he officially closed down his shop, continued to fix things as favors to friends. Life continued as such until the Akatsuki attacked the sand Village. (Shipuudden picks up here)

Kekkei Genkai:
Shinigan- Using the trait is extremely taxing, and people who do have the trait are often unable to effectively use it without several years (usually a decade) of training, although the ability may spontaneously activate in the presence of mind altering stimuli, large concentrations of energy, similar abilities, or life threatening situations. Unlike the Sharingan, however, activating it once, even several times, may not allow the user to activate it at will from that point on- for those unable to use it at will after first use, even several years of conventional training often results in being only being able to activate it at will, although this still grants enhanced vision, movement and perception speed as well as chakra reliant abilities such as greatly enhanced chakra control and the ability to see chakra itself, a common trait to all doujutsu. Learning the more advanced abilities requires complete mastery of the trait, which is obtainable through either of 2 methods. The first and safest method is another few years (between 2 to 5) of combat experience with the Shinigan; however, this method is slow, does not eliminate all of the strain from using the Shinigan (strain from using the Shinigan in this state is comparable with the Sharingan combined with someone who isn’t an Uchiha), and the time required to complete the training varies between individuals by as much as 2 years. The second method is far more dangerous, and can result in either death, permanent loss of the trait, blindness, or a severely weakened chakra network. This method involves continuously using the shinigan over the course of several months to possibly a year, and although extremely risky, it gives the user an unparalleled mastery of the trait. Users who undergo the second training method are also able to use the shinigan with virtually none of the strain that first came with the trait, allowing for the user to use the trait for indefinite periods of time. Once the most advanced stage is reached, however, abilities begin to differ based on several factors such as family lineage, the training involved in reaching said stage, and even the user’s personality, in much the same way as the Mangyeko Sharingan differs from person to person. The color of even the basic forms can vary from person to person, and mutant versions of the trait have been observed on more than one occasion. Nicholas underwent the second training method, and gained the ability to “memorize” an individual’s chakra pattern/network, and instinctively track that individual if Nicholas gets within 25 miles of them. He has also gained the ability to discern differences between a normal individual’s chakra and that of a kekkei genkai user to the point where he can tell what variety of kekkei genkai someone has (doujutsu, elemental, other). After seeing a kekkei genkai in action with his shinigan he is then able to recognize it in its dormant state.
There are 3 different stages to the shinigan. The initial version, stage 1, illuminates the entire eye and only grants a basic resistance to genjutsu, but uses an incredible amount of chakra, enough to hospitalize the user if used for more than a few minutes. Stage 1 increases the speed and perception time of the user as well as increasing chakra control and quality as well as fortifying the user's body with chakra, which in turn makes the user less susceptable to injury (mostly blunt trauma), increases recovery rate and makes the user all but immune to shock. Stage 2 only illuminates the pupil as well as changing it into the distinctive slit. This stage is obtained through several years of training, and once reached the shinigan grants complete immunity to mind altering stimuli, allows basic genjutsu, and can paralyze opponents as long as eye contact is maintained. Individual abilities may also begin manifesting at this stage. Stage 3 is not controllable, only appearing when the user is experiencing unusually strong emotions (grief, rage, etc). This stage is only temporary (usually lasting no more than an hour), but further enhances the stage 2 effects as well as increasing chakra control to the point where jutsu that the user is familiar with no longer require hand signs. The amount of chakra being generated and used to reinforce the user's body reaches the point where it actually begins to leak out, forming a haze of chakra similar to that of one of Orochimaru's Curse Marks. The shinigan changes from its normal blue hue to a blazing white.
Note: While Nicholas has reached stage 2, the point where using it creates almost no strain and uses virtually no chakra, turning it on and off in rapid succession ( i.e. turning it on/off 4 or 5 times within 10 minutes) will cause it to become unusable for about an hour or so as his body recovers from the strain.
Nicholas’s shinigan causes his pupil to morph from the normal circle shape to a vertical, slit shaped pupil that glows an intense blue, which shifts more towards white the more heavily Nicholas draws on it while fighting. His iris retains the normal brown color.
Weapon of choice: Zanryu (Katana personally made by Nicholas during his shinigan training- has been sharpened to the point where it can cut even steel with relative ease, and the edge is an alloy of steel and a metal that is chakra conductive, making it extremely resistant to damage from chakra based attacks, even raiton infused weapons. The weapon's guard and hilt have been insulated to prevent chakra such as Lightning and Wind style from flowing through the weapon and into the user.)
Chakra Element: A natural affinity for Earth Style, but has mastered Lightning Style, and Fire Style as well. Learned how to use basic Water Style during the time skip, but not proficiently enough to directly confront an opponent with it.
Weaknesses: Similar to the sharingan, but less so due to the shinigan increasing movement speed and reaction time. Other than that, enemies using long range attacks or anyone physically stronger than him due to his preference for taijutsu. Also, Nicholas has something akin to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from the fire that killed the man who had cared for him as well as the subsequent beating, which manifests itself as severe insomnia during the month of October as well as the two or three weeks before and after the month.
Techniques:
Note: Techniques marked with * were developed/ learned during or after the time skip.
Ninjutsu:
Lightning Palm- A combination of the Byakugan’s Gentle Fist technique and the Chidori, combined with movement as fast as flash step. Doesn’t aim for chakra points- allows for flexibility in how much damage is dealt to the target. Fast, doesn’t require hand signs, but requires setting up the target in an open area away from support, and uses an obscene amount of chakra- only real use is as a finishing move. Partially developed after watching the Chuunin Exams before Orochimaru’s attack on Konoha, and perfected the following January.
Chidori/ Lightning Blade – Kakashi agreed to teach it to Nicholas in return for Earth Style: Shattered Earth after Nicholas had shown that he was close to being able to use it anyways from watching Sasuke use it during the Chuunin Exams with the shinigan active. Shinigan’s side effect of fortifying the body with chakra makes the basic chidori unstable and unsafe, and as such Nicholas usually uses the Lightning Blade, which is much more stable due to the increased shape manipulation required for the technique. Nicholas can modify the size and intensity of the Lightning Blade at will once it is initiated thanks to the very side effect that made chidori unusable.
*Chidori Overload: Despite the name, it is actually a variation or Raikiri, or Lightning Blade. Using the very problem that made Chidori unusable to his advantage, Nicholas forces chakra into the Lightning Blade, and releases the shape manipulation just before the jutsu backfires. This bathes everything within a meter in the direction his palm is facing within a large electrical discharge, usually resulting in severe exterior and internal burning to the target. The technique's range is greatly extended in wet environments, although Nicholas must position himself above his opponent to prevent any stray electrical current from shocking himself. The jutsu is risky, however, and requires careful timing, otherwise the technique will backfire on the user (Nicholas was hospitalized from the first time it backfired when developing the jutsu, with the arm that used the jutsu being covered in second degree burns up to the bicep). Due to the speed at which electricity moves when left to its own devices, this technique is impossible to dodge if the target is in range when the jutsu is used.
Substitution Jutsu- Self Explanatory. Can use without hand signs.
Transformation Jutsu- Also self explanatory. Limited experience with it however - was only learned because it was a requirment for officially joining Konoha's military.
Earth Style: Shattered Earth- Gives the user complete control over the all of the surrounding ground within a kilometer of the user. Makes the user immobile, and uses a large amount of chakra. Useful defensive technique, but easy to dodge if used offensively - however, it is extremely useful against numerically superior enemies as well as a diversionary jutsu. Also prevents any other Earth Style techniques from being used due to the method through which Shattered Earth controls the ground.
Earth Style: Stone Prison- Similar to Shattered Earth, but moves much more quickly and on a smaller scale - movement speed is on par with Water Style: Water Dragon. Quick, but dodge able with a flash step if the opponent sees it coming. Useful for ambushes and capturing lone targets as well as a very effective defensive jutsu.
Ironskin Jutsu- Similar to Gaara’s Sand Armor, but uses the iron in the user’s blood to reinforce the user’s skin to the point where it is capable of blocking a sword with a bare arm. Doesn’t use much chakra, but can cause severe anemia if overused. As such, Nicholas has only used it a handful of times, preferring to rely on the shinigan's stamina boosting side effects.
*Hidden Mist Jutsu- Self explanatory. Still somewhat new to the jutsu, and can only cover an area of roughly three thousand square feet.
Fire Style: Dragon Fire technique - The user breathes fire along a cord or any other type of long object, which rush forward in straight line catching the enemy on fire. The flames are meant to target, and assault the enemy's upper body just like a projectile weapon.
*Original, unnamed Fire Style technique: A modification on an already potent Fire style technique, it launches a small, extremely concentrated sphere of fire chakra only a centimeter wide which explodes after a few seconds. When the sphere explodes, the intense heat is enough to flash cook everything within a 40 foot radius of the center, often reducing everything into ash within a split second just before the following concussive wave which usually flattens everything within 300 feet of the center with a shockwave hot enough to ignite trees in an instant. Uses an incredible ammount of chakra, and the user will always run the risk of being caught in their own jutsu. Alternatively, Nicholas can alter the size and intensity of the jutsu, limiting the blast to only a handful of meters.
Shadow Clones/ Multi Shadow Clones- Self explanatory.
Genjutsu: No actual technique; only genjutsu Nicholas is capable of using comes from the shinigan, which allows genjutsu techniques much the same way the sharingan does- only can use the basics, however, of no real use on an experienced shinobi.
Taijutsu:
Flash Step mastery- Can move even faster than Might Guy or Rock Lee when using the shinigan due to the enhanced perception. Without it, only slightly slower. No recovery time needed to make another flash step after executing one.
Mastery of 4 different martial arts- mostly ones that focus on diverting attacks and energy around the user, rather than directly counteracting them.
Mastery of several different sword styles.
Hobbies: Reading, going for walks in the forest by his house, training to keep himself sharp, cloud/ stargazing, Shogi, often gets up in time to watch the sun rise from atop the Hokage Cliffs.
Best Friends: Kakashi Hatake, Shikamaru, Anko Mitarashi
Friends: Kakashi, Shikamaru, Anko, Tenten, Hinata, Yamato
Enemies: Anything that could be considered a threat to something he cares about- his friends, his home. The Akatsuki, but more due to them hunting him- would avoid them for the rest of his life if they simply left him alone, but knows how unlikely that is.
Team: Usually sent out alone, or with Anbu/ jonin if anyone at all prior to Shipuudden. After he gained citizenship and was assigned to an obscure branch of Special Operations seperate from the ANBU Corps he was often assigned to teams that were sent out on high risk missions and needed the extra firepower.
Relation to other characters:
Naruto: Only met in passing, and Naruto never learned of his existence until coming across him in another attempt to escape Konoha’s hospital. Impressed with the kid’s willpower, and interested in seeing how he develops.
Sakura: Believes her to be the voice of reason for Team 7. Never actually spoke to her at length, however. Surprised that Tsunade took her on as an apprentice.
Sasuke: Strong, but extremely misguided. Had believed the boy to be on the right path until he had left Konoha. Would attempt to capture rather than kill him if the opportunity presented itself.
Sai: Distrusts simply due to his connection with Danzo and Root.
Kakashi: A good friend. A bit on the odd side, perhaps, but loyal and intelligent.
Tenten: Never met.
Neji: Observed him during the final tournament of the Chuunin Exams; believes that the boy has incredible potential, but is too arrogant about his abilities.
Lee: Never met.
Gai: Has made every effort to avoid him ever since their first encounter; way too loud.
Shikamaru: Observed in Chuunin Exams. Brilliant mind, and also a very patient individual – a very lethal combination. Knows when to back off, and tends not to take chances.
Ino: Never met.
Choji: Never met.
Asuma: Has met him in passing and talked to him on occasion, but no real opinion as of yet.
Hinata: Has run into her once or twice. Never talked to her, however.
Kiba: Never met.
Shino: Never met.
Kurenai: Same as Asuma.
Tsunade: Originally did not make a good impression due to the effort she put into avoiding a job she had voluntarily accepted. Has learned to trust her judgement over time, however.
Jiraiya: Never spoke to the man; only time they’ve ever met was when Nicholas caught him peeping on Naomi (Nicholas took him by surprise, managing to knock him out without being seen by giving him a concussion, then leaving Jiraiya hogtied with medical tape on a hospital bed).
Orochimaru: While respectful of his abilities, Nicholas despises him, if only for the fact that he had threatened something close to Nicholas; had sworn to kill the man if they ever met.
Gaara: Only saw him once at the Chuunin Exam tournament. Did not like the feel of his chakra, and was on edge during the entire fight.
Temari: Never met.
Kankurou: Never met.
Hidan/ Kakuzu: Was approached by both after his shinigan training but before he joined Konoha and asked to join the Akatsuki- Nicholas’s response was to paralyze Kukazu with the shinigan and then completely dismember Hidan with Zanryu and flee. As far as they were concerned the attack looked like a single flash step placing Nicholas behind Hidan before disappearing with another flash step.
Itachi: First met when he was sent by Konoha to pursue the Akatsuki after Jiraiya drove them off and their first attempt to capture Naruto failed. Never actually saw Itachi fight, but got the impression that it was only from exhaustion from his previous skirmishes that day and that the man could have inflicted a lot of damage under different circumstances.
Kisame: First met when he was sent by Konoha to pursue the Akatsuki after Jiraiya drove them off and their first attempt to capture Naruto failed. Monstrously strong – during their fight, the first blow from Samhaeda sent Nicholas flying a few feet, and nearly knocked Zanryu from his hands. Never formed an opinion on the man apart from strategies for fighting him that did not involve a head on sword fight due to Kisame’s superior physical strength.
Pein: Nicholas and Naomi were dispatched to follow up Jiraiya’s investigation, and began to follow Pein, only to end up back at Konoha for Pein’s assault. Again, another man Nicholas had sworn to kill, but that had died before from different causes.
Konan: Only knew the face, never learned the name until afterwards.
